The Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013 places a duty on employers.
This online course would fall into the category of a General Health and Safety Training course that Safety trainers would find useful to train relevant staff and employees to work with sharps. As well as meeting these training requirements and the Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013. It is also fully CPD certified.
This course aims to help employers meet the legal requirements of the Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013. With adequate training, risks of blood-borne pathogens (e.g. HIV and Hepatitis) from contaminated sharps injury can be minimised.
Completing the course will provide an understanding of the risks required to perform a sharps risk assessment.

It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the course. This can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in a single session, and there is no time limit for completion.
The course consists of two interactive modules and an interactive test. Candidates are required to pass the test to receive certification.
The modules should take approximately 25 minutes to complete. This can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in one. There is no time limit for completing the course.
Candidates are given instant feedback on whether they have passed the assessment or not. The test has a passing score of 75% and can be attempted as many times as required to pass. Retaking the test incurs no extra cost.
Successful candidates will receive a CPD Certificate and 0.5 CPD Credits.
This course certificate has no expiry date because there is no formally recognised period of validity for any health and safety training or this type of course. The HSE recommends refresher training is carried out whenever it is felt necessary. Safety registration bodies such as CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine & SMAS and other members of the SSiP scheme recommend that most re-training is done every 3 years. We would recommend refreshing knowledge as and when legislation or guidance changes applicable to these regulations.
