Work Equipment (PUWER) Training Course - Objectives

This online course will provide delegates with an understanding of the main risks associated with using work equipment and ways to minimise and control the risks. The course also provides details of the various health and safety laws and regulations that impose a duty on both employees and employers to manage the risks associated with different types of work equipment.

After completing the course, candidates will:

• Be aware of the dangers associated with using work equipment, including powered and non-powered handheld equipment as well as larger, static equipment and machinery such as lifting equipment;

• Candidates will understand the requirements of PUWER, how personal protective equipment is essential but a last resort.

• Have knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework that underpins the supply and use of work equipment, PUWER regs;

• Be aware of the precautions to take when using and choosing work equipment;

• Have knowledge of the recommended risk controls required to safely use common work equipment items. Such as Emergency Stop buttons - safe use of.

Work Equipment (PUWER) Training - Course Structure

The course comprises 5 interactive modules and a final assessment. Links to recommended reading and additional resources may be provided within the training modules. These links are not mandatory and will not be tested for in the final assessment.

Duration

It takes approximately 45 minutes to complete the course in full. This can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in a single session. There is no time limit for completion.

Assessment

All candidates must complete a multiple choice assessment after working through the training material. The candidate will be asked 16 multiple choice questions, randomly chosen from a larger question pool, and need to answer a minimum of 12 correctly to pass. Candidates will be given instant feedback after completing the assessment stating whether they have passed or failed. The assessment can be re-taken as many times as is required to pass at no additional cost.

Successful candidates will receive a IIRSM Certificate and 1 CPD Credit.

The PUWER training awareness certificate has no expiry date because there is no formally recognised period of validity for any health and safety training. The HSE recommends refresher training is carried out whenever it is felt necessary. Safety registration bodies such as CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine & SMAS and other members of the SSiP scheme recommend most re-training is done every 3 years.

If you do not know all the learner details - no problem, you can return later and create the learners when it suits you.

The system automatically creates an admin group of your learners, this means you can access your learner accounts to obtain certificates or schedule reports on the progress of your group, useful for Health & Safety audits or Registration to organisations such as CHAS, SMAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine etc or site access when certificates are required.
