The use of display screen equipment, such as computers, has become common in the modern workplace. It is important that employees are aware of how to use a DSE work station comfortably and with minimal risk to health and safety. Especially those that are working from home or remotely.
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 as amended in 2002. Places a duty on employers to protect employees from any risks associated with display screen equipment (DSE) and to provide suitable training to all users.
This online course would fall into the category of a General Health and Safety Training course that Safety trainers would find useful to train relevant staff and employees to work with display screen equipment, DSE. As well as meeting these training requirements and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It also meets the requirements of CHAS, SafeContractor, Construction line, Exor and other SSIP registrations plus HSE safety training requirements.

This online DSE course will help organisations meet their legal obligations under the display screen equipment regulations 1992 (Commonly known as DSE regs). It will provide candidates with a thorough awareness of how to use display screen equipment safely. They will be able to carry out a HSE display screen equipment risk assessment and so comply with the display screen equipment (dse) policy of their organisation.
After completing the course, candidates will:
Understand what is meant by display screen equipment (DSE) and what is safety display screen equipment;
Have knowledge of what is display screen equipment (DSE) regulations 1992:
Have knowledge of the risks associated with frequent use of display screen equipment (DSE) and so carry out DSE assessments;
Understand how to manage the risks associated with display screen equipment (DSE);
Be aware of the control measures needed to control the risks when working with display screen equipment (DSE).
The course comprises 2 interactive modules and a final assessment. Links to recommended reading and additional resources may be provided within the training modules. These links are not mandatory and will not be tested for in the final assessment.
Duration
It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the course in full. This can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in a single session. There is no time limit for completion.
Assessment
All candidates must complete a multiple choice assessment after working through the training material. The candidate will be asked 12 multiple choice questions, randomly chosen from a larger question pool, and need to answer a minimum of 9 correctly to pass. Candidates will be given instant feedback after completing the assessment stating whether they have passed or failed. The assessment can be re-taken as many times as is required to pass at no additional cost.
Successful candidates will receive a CPD Certificate and 0.5 CPD Credits.
The DSE safety training certificate has no expiry date because there is no formally recognised period of validity for any health and safety training. The HSE recommends refresher training is carried out whenever it is felt necessary. Safety registration bodies such as CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine & SMAS and other members of the SSiP scheme recommend most re-training is done every 3 years.
