Living with a food allergy can be very difficult, and those that do must make decisions about the food they eat carefully. This is because consuming even small amounts of an allergen can cause them serious harm.
Food handlers working in a manufacturing business frequently work with allergenic ingredients and raw materials so, to protect allergy sufferers, it is important that they understand allergen management and how to prevent allergenic cross-contamination. They must also be aware of the Food Information Regulations 2014 and how to communicate allergen information to customers and on food labels.
This food allergen awareness course will explore what causes food allergies and how a food manufacturing business can effectively manage them. It is suitable for those working in a manufacturing setting, such as a factory, and anyone involved in the food supply chain.
We have a tailored food allergen training course for those working in a catering or retail environment.
Every food manufacturing business is required by law to have a food safety management system in place based on the 7 principles of HACCP. This is designed to prevent the accidental contamination of food while it is processed. It is also recommended that food businesses have a TACCP system in place to control food fraud and intentional contamination.
Regardless of the systems used, all food manufacturers must have measures in place to prevent allergenic contamination and ensure their products are packaged accurately. They must also make sure that staff are sufficiently trained and understand how to handle allergens safely.
After completing this allergen training course, learners will understand:
