Sharps Safety Awareness Training

Needlestick and sharps injuries are avoidable. But sadly, they are common in workplaces where their use is required. Risk of injury can even happen when workers follow safe sharps practices. So a sharps injury protocol must be in place in the event of a sharps injury.

How do we define sharps?

Sharps are defined as any object that can penetrate the skin, including but not limited to needles, scalpels, and broken glass. Understanding what constitutes sharps is vital for implementing proper safety measures and reducing the risk of harm in the workplace.

The Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013 places a duty on employers.

  • They must ensure safe sharps practices are followed.
  • They must have safe sharps disposal methods.
  • They must report certain needlestick injuries.
  • They must provide training on the best use of sharps practice.

This online sharps handling course is General Health and Safety Training for safety managers to use when training employees on the safe use of sharps. This sharps training also meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013 and is fully CPD-certified.
