Alcoholic drinks are something that many people enjoy when consumed safely and in moderation. However, irresponsible drinking can seriously impact people's health and lead to anti-social behaviour.
UK licensing laws, such as the Licensing Act 2003 in England and Wales, are designed to promote responsible drinking, the prevention of crime, and the prevention of public nuisance that may arise from alcohol consumption and binge drinking. They apply to all businesses that partake in licensable activities, such as the sale of alcoholic beverages.
This course covers the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 and provides information on how to manage drunk and disorderly behaviour. It is designed for anyone who works in licensed premises and is involved in sales of alcohol, in England and Wales, such as a bar, restaurant, pub or supermarket.
The Licensing Act 2003 is one of the laws of the United Kingdom. It is an important piece of current legislation that everyone working in licensed premises in England and Wales must understand and follow. This law aims to protect individuals from harm associated with alcohol consumption and ensures compliance with UK laws. Anyone involved in the sale or supply of alcohol is required to undergo alcohol awareness training. Failing to complete this training can harm public safety and the safety of the venue, potentially leading to fines and legal action.
In this course, we will cover:
The training is intended for anyone who works in an establishment that sells or supplies alcohol in England or Wales. The purpose of the course is to educate licensees and anyone they authorise to sell alcohol on their behalf can guarantee that their facilities are safe and hospitable.
Please note that the United Kingdom's alcohol licensing laws govern the sale and consumption of alcohol, with separate legislation passed by the UK Parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly, and the Scottish Parliament. This course is relevant to the sale of alcohol in England and Wales.
For further information about how to become a personal licence holder for a first time applicant, contact your local licensing authority.
Any business involved in the sale of alcohol should ensure that its staff is aware of the principles of doing so responsibly. This course is ideal as part of bar staff training or pub courses. For those working in a bar, or for anybody who needs to be aware of the duties and responsibilities of bar staff.
This course is also appropriate for staff working at a bar or at events where alcohol is served such as: performance of live music, performance of a play, indoor sporting events, exhibition of a film, or other events where late night refreshment is on offer.
It takes approximately 60 minutes to complete the course. This can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in a single session, and there is no time limit for completion.
All candidates must complete a multiple choice assessment after working through the training material. The candidate will be asked 16 multiple choice questions and need to answer a minimum of 12 correctly to pass. Candidates will be given instant feedback after completing the assessment stating whether they have passed or failed. The assessment can be retaken as many times as is required to pass at no additional cost.
