When running a food business, your food must be safe for people to consume. However, there are many food safety hazards that, if left uncontrolled, can cause serious harm to your customers and business.
All food businesses must have an effective food safety management system in place that is based on the seven principles of HACCP.
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is an internationally recognised management system designed to help businesses create and implement appropriate food safety measures. Its use is also a legal requirement enforced by food safety laws, including the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 and its equivalents.
This course will explain why HACCP is important and the role that staff play in a safety management system. It will also provide learners with the knowledge required to create and implement an effective HACCP plan. It is suitable for anyone working in a food business, such as food handlers, managers, and supervisors.

Food businesses, including food manufacturers and caterers, have a moral and legal obligation to ensure that they produce safe food.
Failure to do so can cause significant damage to a business's reputation and finances and may result in legal action being taken against them. Having an effective food hygiene and safety management system in place is essential to prevent this from happening. It also demonstrates your business's commitment to producing food that is safe to consume.
HACCP Level 2 certification is a food industry safety standard that ensures proper hazard analysis and critical control points are identified and managed in food handling. It's important as it helps prevent foodborne illnesses, enhances consumer trust, and ensures compliance with food safety regulations.
After completing the Level 2 online course content, learners will understand:
Alongside this HACCP course, we recommended that all food workers complete one of our Level 2 Food Safety for Catering, Level 2 Food Safety for Retail or Level 2 Food Safety for Manufacturing courses. We also offer a Level 2 TACCP and VACCP Training course, which covers the creation of a food defence management system.
It takes approximately 60 minutes to complete the course in full. Learners can work at their own pace. The course can be spread out over multiple sessions or completed in a single session. There is no time limit for completion.
All candidates must complete a multiple-choice assessment after working through the training material. The candidate will be asked 16 multiple-choice questions and need to achieve a pass mark of 12 correctly answered questions to pass.
