Healthcare Manual Handling - Target Audience

Healthcare professionals are often required to complete manual handling tasks, such as moving equipment and assisting service users. These tasks must be carried out correctly, as poor moving and handling practice can lead to back pain, musculoskeletal disorders and unnecessary injuries to service users.

Ensuring that good manual handling practice is observed can be achieved in part by providing regular moving and handling training to social and health care workers. Training should promote proper patient handling techniques and a safe working environment. This will help to reduce the risk of injury occurring and is required to comply with health and safety legislation in the UK, such as the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.

This course is suitable for anyone working with organisations in the health and social care sectors, such as the NHS or local authority care services, who regularly use handling equipment and partake in the handling of people.

The Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework requires all staff who will be involved in load handling and patient handling activities to undergo additional practical training. This course must be accompanied by relevant in-person training before any of the techniques covered are carried out in the workplace.

Movement and Handling Training - Course Overview

Overview

Maintaining safe moving and handling techniques is essential while moving and handling people to avoid accidents and prevent injury to both the person being moved and the carers. How can handling and moving training benefit employees in various industries?

Handling and moving training benefits employees by reducing the risk of injuries and accidents, improving efficiency and productivity, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
