Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Level 1

Overview

This course aims to prepare learners for work on a construction site. It covers the key aspects of health and safety that help keep construction workers as safe as possible.

After completing the course, learners will have gained:

• Knowledge of the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving safety at work.
• Understanding of the importance of safe manual handling.
• Understanding of the importance of working safely at height.
• Knowledge of the importance of working safely around plant and equipment.
• Understanding of how teamwork and communication help to improve safety in the construction industry.
• Recognition of the hazards and health risks in the construction industry.

 Duration

The course is available 24/7 online. It can be completed at the pace that suits the learner, though we estimate the course to take 5 hours to complete.

Structure & Assessment

This is an external course hosted by Highfield Qualifications. Access to learners is provided through our LMS, where progress can also be tracked.

The package includes access to the full learning material, a practice test paper, revision material, and a seat for the remote invigilation exam.

The exam must be booked in advance and can be done so through our support team once the package is purchased.

As part of the course learners will receive two e-certificates:

• A Highfield e-learning certificate for completing the learning material.
• A Highfield Qualifications certificate for passing the invigilated exam.

The second e-certificate is your proof of qualification and is required when applying for a CSCS Labourer Card.

Upon completion, learners will receive PDF copies of their certificates.

The exam lasts 1 hour and consists of 40 multiple choice questions. A pass mark of 80% (32/40) is required.

Please note: There are no resits allowed for this exam and the full package will need to be purchased again to book further attempts. We recommend using the free practice exam before attempting the final exam to make sure you are prepared.

For the remote invigilated exam, learners will require:

• A computer or laptop with webcam and microphone.
• A smartphone to scan a QR code.
• Google Chrome browser.
• A reliable internet connection.
• A suitable area to sit the exam - candidates will need to show the room using the smartphone's camera.

Successful candidates will receive a Highfield Certificate.

When completing this course you will receive two e-certificates. The first will be given upon completing the learning material provided by Highfield Qualifications. It only proves that you have completed the learning part of the course.

The second e-certificate represents the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, which you will receive after passing the online invigilated exam. The second e-certificate is proof of your qualification and will allow you to apply for a CSCS Labourer card.

This course certificate has no expiry and is a lifetime qualification. The HSE recommends refresher training is carried out whenever it is felt necessary. Safety registration bodies such as CHAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine & SMAS and other members of the SSiP scheme recommend that most re-training is done every 3 years. We would recommend refreshing knowledge as and when legislation or guidance changes applicable to these regulations.

This course is provided by Highfield Qualifications - a global leader in compliance and work-based qualification. The content and qualification are regulated by Ofqual and Qualifications Wales.

After a successful purchase you will be automatically taken to our registration process. Here you create your learner(s) and assign the course(s) to them so that they can start training immediately. If you do not know all the learner details - no problem, you can return later and create the learners when it suits you.

The system automatically creates an admin group of your learners, this means you can access your learner accounts to obtain certificates or schedule reports on the progress of your group, useful for Health & Safety audits or Registration to organisations such as CHAS, SMAS, SafeContractor, ConstructionLine etc or site access when certificates are required.
